Pelvic Girdle Pain
during pregnancy


As with any type of pain, the difficulty is to understand what cause the pain . As the location of your pain is not always an indicator of the localisation of your problem, it is common to examine back and pelvis pain in pregnancy with a similar approach.

Pregnancy is associated with important hormonal and biomechanical changes (Have a look at our blog and youtube channel to know more about it). These changes occur both to give space to your growing baby and also to prepare your body for the delivery.

All these changes overload your muscles and joints leading to muscles fatigues, joints inflammation and finally pain. The most common ones are:

Back pain due to

  • Gluteal muscles spasms
  • Quadratus lumborum muscles spasms
  • Piriformis muscles spasm
  • Sacro iliac inflammation

Pregnancy Pelvic girdle pain

Pelvic pain: Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) or Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD) due to

  • Adductor tendonitis
  • Abdominal muscles spasm
  • Psoas spasm
  • Pubic symphysis inflammation
  • Sacro iliac inflammation
  • Inguinal ligament irritation
